“HENRY!” JUSTIN GESTURED him over to a seat beside him at the table. “Sit down. I’m glad you’re back. I’ve been waiting for you. You’re late.”

“Sorry. I had to claim my cat, thank Doctor Isabel profusely for watching the little devil for me while I was gone, have a cup of coffee with her, and then feed the cat first. Clean up a bit. I’m happy I’m back, too.”

Henry seated himself at the table, placing his steak dinner on it. The steak, as everything he'd eaten so far during his stay, was tender, juicy and flavorful. The sides were good, too. It was like dining at a fine restaurant.

Henry looked around for Isabel. She was at the adjacent table engaged in an intense conversation with a couple of other diners, but tilting her head in his direction, she wiggled the fingers of her right hand at him.

There weren’t many people at the tables. Apparently most of them, with other things to do, had left for other places. It was late for supper.

“Patterson has already called and filled me in on what befell you two in the Lost Sierra. His version, anyway. Give me your version.” Justin eyed him expectantly.

Henry did.

“So, Henry, do you also think we have a new incursion of highly advanced dinosaurs, like we’ve never come across before, to fight, and eliminate?”

“I can’t say for sure, but it looks like it to me. I do know that the creatures–with their ferocity, strange tricks of near-invisibility, and intuitive skills–who attacked us, weren’t friendly, and we were lucky to have escaped unscathed. After that Jones child died, I also believe, if she was bitten by one of them, the creatures are even more dangerous. I was so hoping we’d find nothing at Gold Lake. But that wasn’t to be.”

“We’ll know more,” Justin said, “when we have one or two of your Gold Lake monsters in the lab where we can study them. I’m just relieved you and Patterson got out in one piece.” The scientist pointed his fork at Henry, and flashed a quick grin.

“Not more than we are. Hmm, one of those monsters in captivity. That’ll be interesting,” Henry remarked caustically. “I’d like to see it up close...as long as it’s behind bars, that is.”

“And you will soon. I have complete faith in our retrieval team. Our military has already sent out an experienced team to the Lost Sierra site to track, kill one, and bring back a live specimen if they can manage it. I was just grateful you went with Patterson to check out the tip and the location.”

Justin had brought out the notebook he carried with him and was scribbling some things in it, hovering his pen over the page, his forehead creased in thought.

“I was happy to do it, too. Scott and I had a real nice time the first four days hunting and fishing. It was like a vacation. Until the neon eyed, little monsters showed up, that is. But all is well that ends well.
